Adoption Update

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf…”

–Hebrews 6:19

Exciting news on the adoption front! We thought we would take some time to update everyone since we last posted. There has been a LOT of change in the Dunahoo household as we prepare for our little addition! In the past 3 months, we have sold our townhouse, moved into a new home, completed our home study, received approval by the agency that conducted the home study, and had our home study submitted to Gladney for review, all in the middle of an already hectic Christmas season!

Where does this leave us in the process? From here Gladney, the agency we have chosen to use for our adoption, will review our home study, making sure it is ready to enter into the approval process. I emphasize the word approval, because this is a large step for us in this adoption journey. It is after this step that we begin making our profile books to submit for potential birth mothers to view and ultimately lead us to our birth mother and child!

John and I have both commented over these past few months how smoothly this process has been thus far, with only minor hiccups along the way, for which we can only credit our Lord for giving us grace throughout these past 6 months. He has provided patience throughout this process, moved hearts to give generously to our adoption, and shown us more and more about his goodness and faithfulness in the midst of it all.

How can you help us during this time? Would you please pray with us for the Lord’s continued provision financially, as well as preparing not only our hearts but our birth mother’s heart as we draw closer to the time when we will meet her and our child? We cannot wait to meet this little one He has designed for us.

P.S. The picture in this post is from our first visit to Gladney back in September 2015. One of my favorite verses from scripture is Hebrews 6:19-20, a reminder of truth and breath of life during times of uncertainty, suffering, and struggle. The reminder that we are anchored in Christ, the one who has gone before us, living the life we could not live, dying the death we deserve, and adopting us as sons and daughters to partake in His righteousness is such a comfort regardless of life season. He is our hope, our desire, what we should long for in times of joy AND in times of sorrow. How fitting that in the midst of uncertainty and fear of death I clung to this verse, reminding myself of where my hope was found, and now, in this season of joy, the Lord has reminded me yet again! His ways are unlike my ways, but oh, how he weaves our lives and stories together to create such a beautiful picture, just a small glimpse of the beauty that we will experience one day in Heaven with Him.

**If you are interested in purchasing a photo from our adoption fundraiser please look back to the previous post for links and information. For 2016 tax-deductible giving, we will have a new site through Life Song for Orphans. We will keep you posted in the coming weeks once that goes live. Thanks!
